The Coorie Doon Stripey Tunic: Knitting pattern
A fun super-slouchy, stripey, cosy tunic with pockets to wear anytime in or out.
TO COORIE DOON: Coorie comes from an old Scots word meaning to nestle or snuggle. Coorie Doon
means to cosy up and snuggle down. To appreciate the simple pleasures in life, embracing the great
outdoors (no matter what the weather) and enjoying the cosy feeling of coming back to home
comforts afterwards.
BACKGROUND
The stripes are of many different depths and the inspiration for this is the drama of the shoreline and
that far-off horizon.
I do love stripes and I do love a good slouchy tunic. This is a great winter warmer yet also ideal to wear
into summer if your evenings become a wee bit chilly. Pockets are always great and because Stripey is
knitted simply in 4 pieces and sewn together there are 2 open seams at the bottom of the body to give
more ease and swing. I have come up with 2 colourways in our beautiful Lalland Lambswool Aran with
a couple of accent colours in the Lalland DK, 2 strands knitted together. We have put together a kit for
this! This is also a great stash buster. You can have your base yarns as Aran or lighter weight Chunky
yarn, then strand 2 x DK weight together or 3 x 4-ply together to use up some of your saved stash.
Yarn:
I have recreated the Coorie Doon in the following two colourways using the main colours in Aran with one contrast in a Lalland DK with 2 strands knitted together. There are many other options of course. Design your own colour ways!
